How often did renewed AVG subscribers also pay McAfee?
McAfee appeared among ~9.8% of the 2,734 AVG subscribers who renewed from August 2025–July 2026, making it the most common single overlap partner in the measured security set. The result measures concurrent payment from August 2025–July 2026, not which subscription started first or which product a household used more.
How common was payment for another Gen Digital brand?
Another 12.1% of renewed AVG subscribers also paid Norton or Avast, compared with 1.9% of renewed Norton subscribers paying another Gen Digital antivirus brand. The 6.4-times difference is specific to within-company overlap; payment for an external rival was common across AVG, McAfee, and Norton renewers.
Which subscription remained when dual-brand households kept only one?
Among 447 households paying AVG and another Gen Digital brand from August 2024–July 2025, 58.2% kept both from August 2025–July 2026. Another 17.4% kept only AVG, 13.2% kept only the sister brand, and 11.2% kept neither. The 4.2-percentage-point AVG-only gap does not show why households consolidated.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel. The cohort contained 3,763 established AVG subscribers with a receipt from August 2024–July 2025; 2,734 had another AVG receipt from August 2025–July 2026 and were treated as renewed. Overlap required concurrent payment for McAfee or another measured security brand from August 2025–July 2026. The dual-Gen follow-up tracked 447 households paying AVG plus Norton or Avast from August 2024–July 2025. Free security products are invisible, receipts do not measure usage, and overlap does not establish sequence or causality.
