78.7% of Brightspeed Customers Who Added Satellite Later Stopped Brightspeed Billing

Among Brightspeed customers who added Starlink, Viasat, or HughesNet before the May–July 2026 billing check, 78.7% had no Brightspeed billing then.

Which satellite providers were included?

Satellite adoption covered a first observed charge to Starlink, Viasat, or HughesNet. The charge had to appear by April 2026, before the May–July 2026 Brightspeed billing window, so the sequence establishes that the competitor payment came first.

Was the association specific to satellite internet?

The rate was also elevated for cable or wired adopters, at 59.3%, but satellite was 19.4 percentage points higher. Mobile or fixed-wireless adopters were closer to the 32.4% baseline at 39.1%; those charges can include phone plans, so that category does not cleanly isolate home internet.

Does missing Brightspeed card billing prove cancellation?

No. A customer can disappear from the card panel after changing cards or moving autopay, which inflates absolute rates. The gaps between groups measured with the same method are more informative than the absolute stopped-billing rates, but they remain observational and do not show that satellite adoption caused Brightspeed billing to stop.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We followed 8,490 U.S. debit/credit card panelists with Brightspeed billing in the first half of 2025 through July 2026. Competitor adoption required a first-ever charge from January 2025 through April 2026. Satellite covered Starlink, Viasat, and HughesNet; cable or wired and mobile or fixed-wireless used separate provider sets. Stopped billing means no Brightspeed charge in May–July 2026. It can reflect cancellation, a changed card, or autopay migration. Adopter groups were moderate, fixed-wireless could not be separated from phone plans, and the results do not establish causation.
