Xbox Game Pass payers with Discord Nitro more often had no direct bill after launch
Share of active direct Microsoft Game Pass subscribers with no direct-billing receipt in the following three months; subscribers who also paid for Nitro versus other Game Pass payers
Share with no direct Game Pass billing in three months
Source: YipitData U.S. e-receipt panel. Pre-launch: Nitro and Game Pass n=400, comparison n=15,863. Post-launch: Nitro and Game Pass n=358, comparison n=14,351. May–Jul. 2026 is the latest complete three-month outcome window. The smaller Nitro and Game Pass samples make exact percentages less precise, so focus on the direction of the difference.
Chart data

| Pre-launch — Nitro and Game Pass | 22.8% |

How many Nitro subscribers already paid for Xbox Game Pass?
Among 8,264 Discord Nitro subscribers observed in Nov. 2025–Apr. 2026, 883, or 10.7%, had also paid Microsoft directly for Xbox Game Pass during those six months. That was ~8× the ~1.4% share of active panelists paying for Game Pass in a single month, although the cohort and benchmark use different observation windows.
How much did the no-direct-billing gap change after launch?
The share with no direct bill was 2.0 percentage points higher among subscribers who paid for both in the pre-launch comparison window and 7.4 points higher after launch. The gap between the groups therefore widened by 5.4 percentage points after launch. The adjacent-cohort design and the opposite movement among other Game Pass payers support an association, but the modest Nitro and Game Pass sample and three-month window do not establish causation.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We identified U.S. e-receipt panelists with first-party Discord Nitro signals from Nov. 2025–Apr. 2026; server subscriptions were excluded. Direct Game Pass required a Microsoft-billed receipt naming a tier. We compared the gap between subscribers who paid for both and other Game Pass payers in a Jan. cohort’s Feb.–Apr. outcome window with the same gap in an Apr. cohort’s May–Jul. window. We counted a direct-billing lapse when no Microsoft receipt appeared; this does not prove Game Pass access ended. The group that paid for both had samples of 400 and 358, and Aug. was incomplete. This early panel comparison assumes seasonality affected both groups similarly and does not establish causation or market scale.
Discord announced on May 11, 2026 that its $9.99 Nitro plan included the base Xbox Game Pass tier at no added cost. [Discord]
