How many Google paid AI subscribers also paid a rival?
In the first half of 2026, 37.8% of the 17,130 panelists with an active Google One AI Pro or Ultra plan also paid for at least one of three rivals. Claude had the largest overlap at 24.5%, followed by ChatGPT at 19.3% and Perplexity at 6.7%. Because these groups can overlap, the three service rates do not add to the 37.8% total.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed our U.S. e-receipt panel from Jan. 1-June 30, 2026. We included 17,130 panelists observed throughout the period with Google One receipts referencing AI Pro, Ultra, Gemini, or Google AI. We counted a rival when we observed an OpenAI/ChatGPT, Anthropic/Claude, or Perplexity receipt during that period. We excluded a separate merchant named Gemini because it usually reflected a crypto exchange, not Google’s AI service. Receipt text can misclassify plans, and we may miss subscriptions in email accounts not connected to the panel. The panel skews slightly male and upper-middle income. Results describe observed panelists, not Google’s subscriber base.
