How often did Headspace cancelers return to Headspace?
Among all 290 observed cancelers, 4.9% resumed Headspace within 180 days. The Calm-start analysis used a narrower 268-person cohort that excluded anyone with a prior Calm subscription, so the reactivation and Calm-start percentages do not have exactly the same denominator.
Does the result show that cancelers left paid meditation entirely?
No. The analysis measured subsequent Calm starts and Headspace reactivation, but it did not reliably measure every paid meditation service, free app, video platform, or therapy option. The evidence supports the narrower finding that eligible Headspace cancelers rarely started Calm within six months.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel. Headspace cancelers had an active receipt before an explicit cancellation signal from October 2024–February 2026 and a fully observed 180-day follow-up. Calm starts required a first Calm active receipt after cancellation and excluded 22 cancelers with prior Calm. The comparison followed 822 never-canceled Headspace subscribers with no prior Calm over a matched 180-day window. Headspace and Calm receipts included direct, Apple, and Google billing. App-store cancellation signals may be incomplete, and the 1.5% rate represents four people, so the comparison is more informative than the point estimate alone.
