Returning customers first appeared at BeenVerified more often than at Intelius or Spokeo
Share with no tracked people-search receipt for six months whose first later receipt was from their previous brand, January 2025–August 2026
Share re-entering through the same brand
Source: YipitData U.S. e-receipt panel. Intelius returners n=27; BeenVerified n=67; Spokeo n=38. Each cohort had no tracked people-search activity from July–December 2024. Because the returner groups are small, treat the exact rates as estimates.
Chart data
| Series | Share re-entering through the same brand |
|---|---|
| BeenVerified | 58.2% |
| Spokeo | 7.9% |
| Intelius | 7.4% |
Where did former Intelius customers re-enter people search?
Among 27 Intelius returners, 20, or 74%, first re-entered through BeenVerified. Only 7.4% returned through Intelius; the remaining destinations each had fewer than five customers and are not individually reported. The comparison used the first observed people-search brand after a fully observed six months with no tracked activity.
Could missing Intelius receipts explain the low return rate?
Among people who had previously used any tracked brand, 13 first returned through Intelius during the same period, showing that later Intelius receipts were observable. Requiring six months without tracked people-search activity also removed continuously billed users before measuring return. These checks reduce two measurement concerns, although the small Intelius group makes its exact percentage uncertain.
How common was people-search rotation among Intelius customers?
Across all 1,623 observed Intelius customers from 2023–2026, 40.4% also transacted with at least one tracked competitor and used 1.65 people-search brands on average. This broader pattern supports the finding that customers rotate across services, but it does not explain whether brand recall, search placement, price, or another factor determined the re-entry choice.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed established U.S. e-receipt panelists who used a tracked people-search brand from January 2023–June 2024, had no tracked category activity from July–December 2024, and then returned from January 2025–August 2026. Return was the first observed brand after six months without tracked activity. Brands were identified from receipt subject and line-item text, including intermediary billing. The panel skews slightly male and upper-middle income, brand text can be missed, and returner cohorts are small. Whitepages was excluded because annual billing can resemble a return. Exact rates are estimates and do not establish why customers chose a brand.
