Chart data
| Series | Share with an Eventbrite purchase |
|---|---|
| Meetup subscribers | 32.4% |
| Active panelists | 7.6% |
Was the difference specific to live-event platforms?
Meetup subscribers were 5.2× as likely as active panelists to buy through AXS, 4.3× as likely through Eventbrite, 3.9× as likely through SeatGeek, and 3.0× as likely through Ticketmaster. Netflix had the smallest measured multiple at 2.4×. Among Eventbrite buyers, both groups averaged about 4.1 orders, indicating that the 32.4% versus 7.6% difference came from how many people participated, not more orders per buyer.
Does this show that Eventbrite replaces Meetup?
No. The analysis measures purchases during the same period and does not establish which service came first or whether one replaced the other. Meetup is captured through app-store subscriptions, and receipts record ticket purchases rather than event hosting. The subscriber group may also differ from the broad panel in income or digital activity, so the comparison describes an observed audience overlap rather than an effect caused by Meetup.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from August 2024 through July 2026. The cohort included 1,517 active panelists with an app-store subscription receipt for Meetup’s events app; similarly named dating apps were excluded. The benchmark comprised 1,537,453 active panelists measured over the same period. Penetration is the share with at least one vendor purchase, and each multiple divides subscriber penetration by benchmark penetration. App-store capture misses some direct or web billing, ticket receipts do not measure hosting, and the groups were not demographically matched.
