Peacock churners were more likely than retained subscribers to hold a rival service in 2025
Share of first-party Peacock subscribers with a concurrent Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, or Paramount+ receipt in May–Jul.; seasonally matched 2024 and 2025 cohorts
Share holding at least one rival service
Source: YipitData U.S. e-receipt panel. 2024: churned n=6,150, retained n=2,058. 2025: churned n=3,473, retained n=992. Data through Aug. 18, 2026. Rival holding is a conservative receipt-detected floor; first-party Peacock only.
Chart data
| Series | Share holding at least one rival service |
|---|---|
| 2025 churned | 31.1% |
| 2025 retained | 25.1% |
| 2024 churned | 29.3% |
| 2024 retained | 27.8% |
How much did the churner-retained gap change from 2024?
The rival-holding gap widened from 1.5 percentage points in the seasonally matched 2024 cohorts to 6.0 points in 2025. After accounting for the 2024 gap, the 2025 churner-versus-retained gap was 4.4 percentage points wider. The comparison controls for year-level differences in receipt capture but does not isolate the cause of the change.
Did the 2025 churners return to Peacock?
In a broader follow-up cohort of approximately 3,900 post-cancellation panelists, ~48% had a rival subscription signal in Jan.–Apr. 2026, while ~11% reactivated Peacock. The direction supports continued streaming activity outside Peacock, but this broader group differs from the subscribers used in the main year-over-year comparison, and receipt capture cannot distinguish every unobserved rival from leaving the paid-streaming category.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel for first-party Peacock subscribers active in May–Jul. 2024 or 2025. Churners had a plan-level cancellation within six months; retained subscribers had no cancellation and remained active the following winter or spring. Rival holding required a concurrent Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, or Paramount+ subscription receipt. Both cohorts used the same fixed panel. Rival receipts are a conservative floor; third-party- and Xfinity-billed Peacock are excluded. Results are associations, not causal estimates. Data through Aug. 18, 2026.
