When dual payers renewed only one service, which one did they keep?

From March 2025–August 2026, 101 dual payers had a Duolingo renewal but no Rosetta Stone renewal, while seven had a Rosetta Stone renewal but no Duolingo renewal. This comparison establishes the observed renewal direction within the dual-payer cohort. It does not show that one service caused the other to lapse or identify which subscription was the customer’s primary learning tool.

Does the result describe every Rosetta Stone subscriber?

No. The cohort includes only 266 people who had paid both Rosetta Stone and Duolingo, remained active in the panel, and had sufficient history. Rosetta Stone customers who never paid Duolingo may behave differently. Lifetime-access Rosetta Stone buyers also may continue using the product without another charge, so missing renewal receipts can overstate service lapse for that group.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel. The cohort included 266 panelists with both Rosetta Stone and Duolingo payments, panel presence before August 2023, and recent activity. Renewal presence required at least one receipt from September 2025–August 2026; the keep-one comparison used March 2025–August 2026. Rosetta Stone was identified from app-store line items after removing unrelated text matches. The 18-month comparison covers annual billing, but lifetime purchases may not rebill. Email-level identity and app-store coverage can miss activity. Results apply only to dual payers and do not establish use, motivation, substitution, or causation.
