Did members without a later RuneScape receipt move into World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV?

Tracked World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV payments appeared among 21.0% of the cohort in the first half of 2025 and 22.2% in the first half of 2026. The 1.2-point change does not indicate a broad move into those measured MMO subscriptions.

Before the receipt gap, did these members pay more gaming platforms?

Yes. In the first half of 2025, 91.3% of members without a later RuneScape receipt paid another gaming platform, compared with 78.2% of members who had a later RuneScape receipt. The two groups averaged 2.41 and 2.25 competing platforms, respectively.

Does continued paid gaming show that these members would return to RuneScape?

No. The analysis shows that most cohort members kept paying another tracked gaming platform. It does not measure later RuneScape reactivation, why they stopped paying, their play time, or whether any 2026 Jagex change contributed to the receipt gap.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel. The cohort included 1,206 observable members with a Jagex or RuneScape receipt in January–June 2025. Of those, 784 had no RuneScape receipt from July 2025–July 2026 and 422 had a later receipt. We compared the same members’ receipts from other gaming stores and subscriptions in January–June 2025 and January–June 2026. Receipt absence may include annual non-renewal, and the gaming-platform measure mixes store purchases with subscriptions. Results describe observed payment activity, not game use, confirmed cancellation, switching, reactivation, or causation.
