Which other services remained elevated after the activity adjustment?
Dave receipts appeared at 2.00× the expected rate, Robinhood at 1.82×, Instacart at 1.80×, and Plaid at 1.60×. The pattern spans several consumer finance and on-demand services rather than resting on Coinbase alone. The Coinbase and Dave figures are based on 66 and 64 subscribers, so their exact relative rates are uncertain.
Did Sideline subscribers show a distinctive merchant-tool footprint?
Not after matching for receipt volume. Shopify was at 0.98× the expected rate, Intuit at 0.99×, eBay at 1.02×, ShipStation at 1.06×, Square at 1.15×, and Etsy at 0.92×. Consumer- and seller-side receipts cannot always be separated, so this does not prove that subscribers are not merchants. It shows that these tools were not unusually common versus similarly active panelists.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed 1,167 U.S. e-receipt panelists with paid Apple or Google Sideline subscription line items and activity from August 2025–July 2026. For each outside service, we divided the share of Sideline subscribers with a receipt by the share expected among panelists with similar receipt counts. This accounts for receipt activity, not demographics or lifestyle. The Coinbase and Dave figures are based on 66 and 64 subscribers. App-store billing misses direct or carrier-billed users, consumer and seller receipts can overlap, and the associations do not establish business use or causation.
