What happened after AccuWeather subscribers canceled?
Roughly 78% of 2,510 U.S. consumers who canceled a paid AccuWeather app subscription from July 2024 through July 20, 2026 did not start another tracked paid weather app afterward. The Weather Channel was the leading named destination at 11.8%, more than twice Foreca's 5.7% and CARROT Weather's 4.7%. MyRadar, WeatherBug, and Windy each reached less than 3% of the cohort. Category exit was therefore much more common than a later subscription event at any tracked competitor.
Assumptions & Methodologies
YipitData analyzed its U.S. e-receipt panel on July 20, 2026. The cohort was 2,510 consumers whose latest AccuWeather lifecycle signal was a cancellation or expiration from July 2024 through July 20, 2026, with no later reactivation. Apple- and Google-billed subscriptions were identified by app names in receipt subject lines and item descriptions. Destinations were later subscription events among eight tracked competitors. The roughly 78% category-exit estimate is a conservative floor because untracked or free apps appear as exits; Weather Underground is undermeasured. Figures describe observed panelists, not AccuWeather's full subscriber base.
