Bird Buddy had more observed app-store subscribers than Birdfy
Distinct U.S. e-receipt panel subscribers with an Apple or Google receipt in 2025
Distinct app-store subscribers
Source: YipitData U.S. e-receipt panel. Bird Buddy subscribers n=338; Birdfy subscribers n=3. Birdfy also bills memberships through Stripe and the web, which are undercaptured here, so its count is a floor. Counts are panel observations, not total subscribers.
Chart data
| Series | Distinct app-store subscribers |
|---|---|
| Bird Buddy | 338 subscribers |
| Birdfy | 3 subscribers |
How did the two app-store subscriber counts change before 2025?
Bird Buddy’s observed app-store subscriber count rose from 78 in 2023 to 216 in 2024 and 338 in 2025. Birdfy had no observed app-store subscribers in 2023 or 2024 and had three in 2025. The comparison covers the same Apple and Google receipt channel, but it does not capture all Birdfy memberships billed through Stripe or the web.
Did Bird Buddy’s annual subscribers return one year later?
Across fully observed Bird Buddy sign-up cohorts, 54%–61% had another app-store subscription receipt 300–430 days after their first receipt. This window allows for annual billing variation and shows a later observed receipt, but it does not establish uninterrupted membership or lifetime retention.
Did Birdfy still lead in observed hardware buyers?
Yes. In 2025, the panel observed 895 new Birdfy hardware buyers and 471 new Bird Buddy hardware buyers. The contrast shows that the brand with more observed new hardware buyers did not have the larger captured app-store subscription base; it does not measure subscription attachment because hardware and app receipts may use different email addresses.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from January 2023 through August 18, 2026. Birdfy and Bird Buddy hardware buyers were identified from non-subscription physical-product receipts. App-store subscribers required an Apple or Google subscription receipt naming Birdfy or Bird Buddy. A Bird Buddy annual subscriber counted as returning when another app-store subscription receipt appeared 300–430 days after the first; cohorts without a complete follow-up window were excluded. Panel growth makes multi-year counts directional, Birdfy’s Stripe and web billing are undercaptured, and email-level identities may not connect hardware and app receipts. The results do not represent total subscribers, revenue, attachment, or causality.
