Did frequent Bird riders show the same pattern?

Yes. Among 1,132 riders who completed at least four Bird rides in April–September 2024, 79.9% had no tracked Bird, Spin, or Lime ride in the same months of 2025, while 0.7% had a Lime ride. The result shows missing tracked rides, not a confirmed decision to leave shared scooters.

Were riders with no later scooter receipt still observable in the panel?

Among the 1,577 Bird riders with no tracked Bird, Spin, or Lime ride in the follow-up season, 98.1% still generated other purchase receipts. Their absence from the three scooter brands therefore was not mainly explained by disappearing from the e-receipt panel, although a scooter ride could still have gone uncaptured.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We identified U.S. e-receipt panelists with completed Bird rides in April–September 2024 who were observable before the base season and remained active in the panel. We then classified their completed Bird, Spin, and Lime ride receipts in the same six months of 2025. Ride passes, balance top-ups, subscriptions, refunds, and failed payments were excluded. The panel captures only emailed receipts linked to participating inboxes, so competitive ride shares are floors. City-level service availability, occasional use, and relocation can also affect the result. The analysis measures tracked receipts and does not establish why a rider stopped appearing or whether a reactivation campaign would work.
