Among 315 CNN subscribers with any observed New York Times history, 89.8% had a New York Times receipt before their first CNN receipt. The median lead was 835 days, or ~2.3 years. These 315 sequence-tested subscribers are part of the broader group of 705 direct-billed CNN subscribers examined next. First-observed dates depend on panel history and each publisher’s receipt cadence, so the ordering is strong evidence that CNN was newer in these wallets, while the exact lead time should not be treated as a precise duration.

Assumptions & Methodologies
We identified 705 active, direct-billed CNN paid subscribers with a receipt since Nov. 2025 and measured overlap with other news subscriptions during Aug. 2025–Aug. 2026. Relative likelihood compares the share of CNN subscribers with each news subscription against its share among 1.40 million active panelists; 1.0× means equal rates. The sequence test compared first-observed CNN and New York Times receipt dates among 315 CNN subscribers with any New York Times history. CNN receipts do not reliably separate subscription tiers, and app-store billing is under-captured. First-observed dates reflect panel history and receipt cadence. Results describe observed co-holding and sequence, not viewing, substitution, or causation.
