How did overall lapse compare with the prior year?
Overall, 21.3% had no observed Crunchyroll billing receipt in April–July 2026, versus 19.8% after the same September–February billing requirement a year earlier. This comparison does not isolate pricing effects or distinguish cancellations from subscriptions that continued through a different billing provider or channel. Crunchyroll announced that U.S. monthly price changes would reach existing subscribers on their first billing date after March 4, 2026, and called it the first U.S. Fan-tier increase since 2019. Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed established U.S. e-receipt panelists who were on-panel before each window and active within the last 30 days. Monthly subscribers included in the analysis had billing in at least three distinct months from September 2025–February 2026; annual billers were excluded. The other major streaming services were Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, and Max. Crunchyroll paid billing used recurring third-party billers because direct-channel emails were dominated by trials and payment reminders. E-receipt capture is incomplete, lapse is not a confirmed cancellation, and the panel skews slightly male and upper-middle income.
