How did paid-AI overlap change from 2023?

Paid ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity appeared for 11.6% of the same Evernote subscriber group in the first quarter of 2023 and 56.2% through August 2026. August 2026 was part of an incomplete quarter, so the 56.2% endpoint should not be compared as a full quarter with the first quarter of 2023.

Does the comparison prove that AI assistants replace note apps?

No. It measures paid products appearing in the same subscriber’s receipts, not product use or replacement. Paid Notion is undercounted because much of its billing is harder to identify, while AI subscriptions are captured across direct and app-store channels. The analysis does not establish purchase sequence or causality.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel through August 2026. The fixed group contained 6,241 Evernote subscribers who had a payment receipt, were present before 2023, and remained active in the panel. Paid AI meant an observed ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity subscription across direct, Apple, or Google billing. Paid Notion excluded trial, welcome, and calendar emails. The benchmark contained 1,092,055 established active panelists. Notion is under-captured, annual billing affects payment timing, and the established Evernote group may not represent newer subscribers. Results show co-payment, not use, sequence, substitution, or causality.
