How common was World of Warcraft among Final Fantasy XIV subscribers?

World of Warcraft appeared among 19.6% of the 1,106 paneled Final Fantasy XIV subscribers, or 217 people. In the reverse direction, 5.7% of observed World of Warcraft subscribers also paid for Final Fantasy XIV.

Were World of Warcraft payers more likely to restart Final Fantasy XIV?

Among Final Fantasy XIV subscribers who had lapsed before the July 2024 Dawntrail window, 31.6% of the 38 with an active World of Warcraft signal restarted Final Fantasy XIV by November, versus 14.0% of 243 without World of Warcraft. The small 38-person cell makes the 2.3× difference directional, and it does not prove World of Warcraft activity caused the restart.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed our U.S. e-receipt panel from January 2023–August 2025. Final Fantasy XIV used direct Square Enix recurring receipts for Standard, Entry, or Legacy plans; cash-shop and one-off purchases were excluded. World of Warcraft used Battle.net game-time renewals; cancellations and store orders were excluded. A renewal kept a subscription inferred active for three months. Steam- or PlayStation-billed Final Fantasy XIV is missed, and six- or twelve-month plans are approximated. A September 2025 Blizzard receipt-template change makes World of Warcraft levels unreliable, so analysis stops in August 2025. Results do not show either subscription caused the other to lapse or restart.
