Which rival flight apps did FlightAware subscribers also pay for?

Among FlightAware subscribers, 36.6% also paid for Flightradar24 and 16.8% also paid for Flighty. A subscriber could appear in both groups. In the reverse direction, ~4% of Flightradar24 subscribers and ~2% of Flighty subscribers paid for FlightAware.

Was FlightAware overlap limited to the heaviest travelers?

The 141 FlightAware subscribers who also paid for a rival had similar numbers of observed flights to the 168 who did not. This weakens a simple explanation that overlap came only from unusually frequent flyers, but it does not reveal why subscribers paid for more than one app or whether they used them simultaneously.

How did observed trip activity differ across the apps?

In the same 24-month window, Flighty subscribers had a median of six observed trips and FlightAware subscribers had a median of three. Flightradar24 subscribers had a median of zero because many paid for tracking without a captured personal itinerary. Trip matching is incomplete and does not represent a full travel history.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed active U.S. e-receipt panelists with app-store-billed FlightAware, Flighty, or Flightradar24 subscriptions from August 2024 through August 2026. Cohorts were FlightAware n=309, Flighty n=2,513, and Flightradar24 n=2,961. Overlap means a payment for another tracked flight app in the same window. App-store receipts can miss direct billing and purchases tied to unlinked inboxes. Observed itineraries are incomplete, and payment overlap does not establish sequence, simultaneous use, substitution, travel frequency, or why a customer paid multiple apps.
