Did the June 2026 cohort cancel faster than launch subscribers?

No. Within a matched 60-day observation window, 43.1% of the June cohort had a captured cancellation versus 52.4% of launch subscribers. Among direct or paid starts, the rates were 43.4% and 52.7%, respectively, so the measured difference was not explained by free-trial mix. Some third-party cancellations are silent, making both rates floors.

Could lower rival overlap reflect thinner receipt capture?

Partly, but not fully. The June cohort also had lower Netflix capture, so some rival receipts may be missing. Treat the exact overlap percentages cautiously; the comparison between cohorts is more reliable. ESPN overlap equaled 0.60 times Netflix overlap for the June cohort, versus 1.64 times at launch. In other words, ESPN overlap was smaller than Netflix overlap in June but larger at launch. That supports a genuine audience-composition difference without proving why the cohorts differed or what subscribers did later.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We identified first observed Fox One starts across direct, Amazon or Prime Video, Roku, Samsung, and ESPN bundle receipts. The launch cohort started in Aug.–Oct. 2025; the comparison cohort started in Jun. 2026. Rival holding required an ESPN, Peacock, or Paramount+ receipt within ±45 days of signup. Cancellation was a captured cancellation email within a matched 60-day window; Jul. 2026 starts were excluded as right-censored. Inbox coverage varies, and some third-party cancellations are silent. Cohort sizes differ by observability window. Results describe panel-observed associations, not market totals, causal effects, or long-term retention.
