komoot payers were far more likely than app-store payers overall to also pay Strava or AllTrails
Share with a Strava or AllTrails receipt, August 17, 2024–August 17, 2026
Share also paying Strava or AllTrails
Source: YipitData U.S. e-receipt panel. komoot cohort n=347; all app-store payers n=639,653. Treat the exact percentages as estimates because the komoot cohort is modest and billing outside Apple and Google is not observed.
Chart data
| Series | Share also paying Strava or AllTrails |
|---|---|
| komoot payers | 39.5% |
| All app-store payers | 1.9% |
Which app usually appeared first among people who paid both?
In a separate sequence analysis using full app-store history rather than the main two-year overlap window, 317 dual payers had usable receipt history. Strava or AllTrails appeared first for 64.4%, komoot appeared first for 22.4%, and both appeared in the same month for 13.2%. When a rival appeared first, its first receipt led komoot by 23.8 months on average.
How often did Strava or AllTrails payers also pay komoot?
komoot appeared among 1.5% of 4,949 Strava payers and 1.1% of 8,060 AllTrails payers. The reverse rates were far below the 39.5% of komoot payers who also paid one of those apps, although the groups differ greatly in size.
Does the overlap show that the apps are substitutes?
No. Co-payment and receipt order show that komoot commonly appeared after a payer already had a Strava or AllTrails receipt. They do not show why people used each app, whether they would cancel one after a price change, or whether the apps served complementary needs.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from August 17, 2024–August 17, 2026. komoot, Strava, and AllTrails payers were identified from Apple and Google receipt text among panelists observable throughout the window. The sequence test compared first observed charges across full app-store history and excluded first charges near panel entry. It included 317 dual payers. Direct web billing is not captured, annual renewals can distort first-observed timing, and the komoot cohort is modest, so treat exact percentages as estimates. The results describe co-payment and receipt sequence, not simultaneous use, substitution, pricing effects, or causation.
