Was the difference limited to younger subscribers?
No. MUBI subscribers were more likely to buy movie tickets in every measured age group from 25–34 through 65+. The differences ranged from 6.4 to 9.0 percentage points. Even among subscribers ages 55–64, 25.3% of the MUBI group bought a ticket, compared with 25.6% of Netflix subscribers ages 25–34.
How much movie-ticket activity did each subscriber group generate?
MUBI subscribers averaged 3.62 distinct movie-ticket purchases per person during the year, compared with 0.96 for Netflix subscribers. In addition, 13.3% of MUBI subscribers made at least three ticket purchases, versus 7.1% of Netflix subscribers. A purchase can cover more than one ticket, so these figures describe transactions rather than attendance or seats sold.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from August 2025 through July 2026. The mutually exclusive cohorts included 1,065 established MUBI subscribers and 210,420 established Netflix subscribers. Movie-ticket purchases came from Fandango, AMC, Cinemark, Regal, Alamo Drafthouse, and Harkins. Subscribers were present before the window and recently active in the panel. The groups were not demographically matched, though the comparison was repeated within age groups. Cash, some independent-theater receipts, and attendance are not observed. The results show association and may reflect that frequent moviegoers select MUBI.
