Were these overlapping subscribers less recently active with Musixmatch?

No clear difference appeared. From August 2025–August 2026, 68.4% of Musixmatch subscribers who also paid Spotify or Apple Music had an observed Musixmatch subscription receipt, compared with 72.2% of subscribers without a measured paid-music overlap. The similar rates show that overlap was not limited to old receipts, although the small cohort makes subgroup percentages imprecise.

Does the overlap show that the services replace one another?

No. The analysis identifies receipts from August 2024–August 2026 and does not establish which subscription came first, how each product was used, or whether one affected retention in the other. It also captures paid Spotify and Apple Music only; free streaming tiers produce no subscription receipt, so the full share of Musixmatch subscribers who use a streaming service is likely higher.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from August 2024–August 2026. The cohort included 185 established panelists with a Musixmatch subscription receipt from Apple, Google Play, or Stripe. The benchmark included 1.32 million active panelists measured identically. Paid Spotify was identified at the vendor level; Apple Music required Apple billing text naming the service. Free tiers do not generate receipts. The Musixmatch sample is small and billing-channel coverage differs, so exact percentages are estimates. Same-window overlap does not establish sequence, substitution, or causation.
