How did Norton subscribers compare with McAfee subscribers?
Across all Norton subscribers, 3.4% paid one of the tracked standalone VPN or password-manager providers, compared with 2.1% of McAfee subscribers and 1.2% of the general panel. The supplied evidence shows overlap, not whether the standalone tool replaced a Norton feature.
Where was the largest measured overlap?
Password managers produced the clearest gap: 2.5% of Norton subscribers paid a tracked standalone password manager, versus 0.9% of the general panel. Competitor VPN overlap is a lower bound because the observed set included ExpressVPN but not NordVPN, Proton, or Surfshark.
Does the comparison show that Norton 360 bundling changed purchases?
No. Norton 360 and other Norton subscribers were observed groups rather than randomly assigned cohorts. Their 3.05% and 3.67% rival-tool rates show that overlap remained present among subscribers with a receipt explicitly naming Norton 360. Generic Norton receipts may leave some Norton 360 users in the other-Norton group, and the comparison does not isolate the bundle’s effect or why customers kept another tool.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed established U.S. e-receipt panelists from August 18, 2025 through August 17, 2026. Cohorts included 30,725 Norton subscribers, 29,853 McAfee subscribers, 13,296 subscribers with a receipt explicitly naming Norton 360, and 1,398,278 panelists overall. Rival privacy tools were ExpressVPN, 1Password, LastPass, Dashlane, and Keeper. Overlap means co-occurrence within the 12-month window, not verified simultaneous use or purchase sequence. The Norton 360 cohort is a clean subset, while generic Norton receipts can leave some 360 users in the comparison group.
