Was the Apple activity gap caused by thinner panel observation?

No. Direct-billed Patreon fans had a median of 612 total receipts, compared with 384 among Apple-billed fans. They also held a similar number of subscriptions outside Apple billing, averaging 7.8 distinct billers versus 7.6. Their lower Apple activity therefore did not reflect a less observable or subscription-light cohort.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed our U.S. e-receipt panel from August 2025–July 2026. Apple-billed Patreon fans had App Store receipts naming Patreon; direct-billed fans had Patreon web-payment receipts and no Apple Patreon receipt. Cohorts included 1,744 Apple-billed and 1,238 direct-billed fans observable for the full period. Non-Patreon Apple subscriptions were normalized from App Store line items. Billing channel is selected, not assigned, and some direct-billed fans may use Android rather than avoid Apple. Template capture can miss receipts. The analysis describes billing behavior, not future migration or churn outcomes, and panel counts are not market totals.
