Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed our U.S. e-receipt panel from June 2024–August 2026. Gifted Perplexity Pro used a no-charge upgrade subject; self-paid users used join, upgrade, or welcome subjects. ChatGPT and Claude cohorts excluded developer invoices. Overlap required the same panel identity, so different email addresses and app-store billing make rates floors. Sequence compared first competitor-payment and Perplexity-gift dates among 2,423 overlapping gift users; eight were same-day. The gift signal may mix promotion sources and some self-initiated upgrades, while changing paid templates make the self-paid cohort directional. Free-year conversion was not yet observable. Results are panel observations, not market totals.
