Was the difference driven by one competing learning tool?

No single tool supported a reliable concentration claim. Against a tougher benchmark of 2,214 families already paying another learning app, Prodigy payers’ IXL overlap was 1.8% versus 2.0%, and both groups held about 1.1 additional tools among stackers. Individual Prodigy overlap cells ranged from four to 18 households, so the evidence supports a broad paid-learning segment rather than dependence on one named competitor.

Could larger families explain the higher overlap?

The supplied follow-up found no larger estimated number of children among Prodigy households. That reduces one possible explanation for the 12.4% versus 0.8% difference, but estimated household attributes can be imperfect. The comparison remains concurrent and does not show whether Prodigy or another tool came first, whether the tools serve the same child, or whether one subscription affects retention in another.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from January 2024 through August 2026. The cohort included 282 active households with a clean Prodigy Education receipt from Apple or direct billing; unrelated Prodigy and Gogomath matches were excluded. The benchmark included 305,387 active non-Prodigy households with an estimated number of children. Other structured learning tools included paid math, reading, tutoring, and education subscriptions. Billing gaps can undercount both Prodigy and other tools, estimated household attributes can be imperfect, and individual-brand cells are small. Same-window payment overlap does not establish sequence, use, substitution, or causation.
