Chart data
| Series | Share with an account-holder cancellation |
|---|---|
| Spotify | 26.5% |
| SiriusXM | 19.5% |
Which service did dual subscribers cancel alone?
Spotify alone was canceled by 21.2% of the dual-subscriber cohort, compared with 14.2% who canceled SiriusXM alone. Another 59.3% kept both services through the observation window, while 5.3% canceled both. These outcomes describe account-holder cancellation signals, not permanent subscription loss.
Were SiriusXM cancellations higher among subscribers who also paid Spotify?
No clear difference appeared. Among 41,892 SiriusXM subscribers measured over the same period, 19.5% of those who also paid Spotify canceled SiriusXM, compared with 18.8% of those without Spotify. We saw no clear increase in SiriusXM cancellations among subscribers who also paid Spotify, but the comparison does not rule out unmeasured differences between the groups.
Does higher Spotify cancellation prove that subscribers chose SiriusXM instead?
No. The analysis compares cancellation signals inside fixed shared wallets; it does not establish why either service was canceled, whether a canceled account later returned, or whether the services served the same need. Other music services were not cleanly observed in this comparison.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt subscription panel. The fixed cohort included 1,273 account holders in our panel who were active with SiriusXM and Spotify from mid-2024 through Q1 2025. We tracked explicit account-holder cancellations from April 2025–August 17, 2026. Among 41,892 SiriusXM subscribers measured over the same window, we also compared cancellation with and without Spotify. Account-holder cancellation does not establish permanent lapse or capture subscriptions paid by someone else. The dual cohort is moderate, so exact rates are estimates. The analysis does not establish causation or cover every music service.
