Did creative-tool purchases usually come before Skillshare?
Yes. In a separate sequence cohort of 1,703 subscribers whose first Skillshare receipt fell from July 2022–February 2026 and who were observable for at least six months earlier, 44.5% had paid Adobe or Canva first, 1.8% first paid in the same month, and 13.6% added a creative tool afterward. Creative-tool-first subscribers outnumbered tool-after subscribers 3.3 to 1, with a median 576-day lead from the tool receipt to Skillshare.
Does the sequence show that creative tools caused Skillshare adoption?
No. The receipts establish purchase order, not why someone joined or which subscription they valued more. The comparison does not test retention after either purchase, and it was not fully matched on age or income. It also covers direct-billed Skillshare subscribers; app-store-billed members may behave differently.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel. The overlap comparison covered direct-billed Skillshare subscribers and other Coursera, Udemy, Duolingo, or LinkedIn learners from August 2024 through July 2026. Teacher-payout emails were excluded. The sequence cohort required at least six months of observation before a first Skillshare receipt from July 2022 through February 2026. Adobe includes Creative Cloud through Acrobat. Receipt overlap and order do not establish product use, causality, or retention, and direct billing misses app-store Skillshare subscriptions.
