What were the underlying paid-learning and Audible rates?

Paid learning subscriptions or tutoring appeared for 27.6% of the 87 Story Time Chess buyers, versus 7.4% of 4,069 activity-matched parents. Audible appeared for 49.4% of Story Time Chess buyers versus 19.1% of matched parents.

Why compare with activity-matched parents?

Story Time Chess buyers had richer receipt histories than parents overall, which can make any purchase category appear more common. Restricting both groups to 500–3,000 captured orders narrowed that observability gap. The paid-learning and Audible differences remained, while broader family-shopping signals weakened substantially.

Does the overlap show that game buyers will purchase Story Time Chess lessons?

No. The comparison shows that these retail buyers were more likely to pay for learning and audiobooks elsewhere. It does not establish purchase order, conversion into Story Time Chess lessons, or whether the observed buyer was a parent rather than a gift-giver.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We identified U.S. e-receipt panelists with a Story Time Chess line item from Amazon, Target, Barnes & Noble, or the company’s store. The headline comparison uses 87 active buyers and 4,069 parents, both restricted to 500–3,000 captured orders from August 2024–July 2026. Paid learning includes tracked learning subscriptions, apps, and tutoring services; Audible is measured separately. The paid-learning cell contains 24 buyers, so exact multiples are approximate. Receipt-text matching, panel composition, and residual capture differences can affect results. Chess platforms were not observable, and the cross-sectional comparison does not establish sequence, conversion, or causality.
