Chart data
| Series | Share active on PlayStation or Xbox |
|---|---|
| Switch 2 buyers | 74.2% |
| Non-buyers | 68.2% |
Did Switch 2 buyers reduce their PlayStation or Xbox activity after buying?
Not more than the comparison group. PlayStation and Xbox orders per Switch 2 buyer fell 29.3% from the pre-purchase to post-purchase period, while orders per non-buyer fell 30.5% over the same windows. The similar declines, together with Switch 2 buyers’ higher post-period active rate, do not support broad substitution away from PlayStation or Xbox among this multi-console segment.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We compared 1,091 established U.S. e-receipt panelists who bought a Switch 2 from June–November 2025 with 90,600 panelists who did not. Both cohorts had PlayStation or Xbox activity in December 2024–May 2025 and remained observable through December 2025–May 2026. Console purchases were identified from receipt line items; accessories and games were excluded. PlayStation includes PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Store receipts. Xbox includes Xbox and Game Pass receipts. The comparison is observational, not causal, and applies only to buyers already active on a rival platform.
