Were the lapsed creators still visible outside Thinkific?
Yes. Fifty-nine of the 69 lapsed creators had recent external receipt activity, and the group averaged about 178 non-Thinkific receipts during the six-month window. This reduces the risk that missing Thinkific payments simply reflect people disappearing from the panel, although it does not prove that every external tool was used for an operating business.
Can the receipts show which course platform replaced Thinkific?
No reliably. No captured rival course-platform receipt appeared among the 130 active and lapsed Thinkific creators examined, but rival subscription templates were sparse across the full panel. The evidence supports continued external tool spending after Thinkific, not a claim that creators never moved to another course platform or that specific tools replaced Thinkific’s functions.
Assumptions & Methodologies
We analyzed our U.S. e-receipt panel through August 2026. Thinkific creators were identified from Thinkific Labs subscription receipts rather than learner purchases. The lapsed cohort had made no Thinkific payment for at least 12 months and remained observable in the panel; external tool activity used the latest six months. Website or e-commerce, design, and webinar or video categories were based on tracked vendor receipts. The cohort is small, rival course-platform capture is thin, some tools have personal uses, and receipt activity does not establish substitution or why a creator stopped paying Thinkific.
