How many console buyers had previously paid through a PC or direct channel?

Only 24 of the 1,369 console buyers, or 1.8%, had an earlier Steam or kingsisle.com payment. Thirty-one buyers, or 2.3%, had any prior KingsIsle purchase, including retail gift cards. These counts describe observable payment history and do not show whether someone had played Wizard101 for free before console.

Could missed prior purchases account for most console buyers?

The entire observed KingsIsle payer population from January 2023 through October 9, 2025 contained 397 people. The 1,338 console buyers with no prior purchase were about 3.4 times that size. Even if every earlier payer moved to console, that population could account for less than 30% of the later cohort.

Did PC and direct buying collapse after console became available?

No aggregate collapse appeared in the panel. PC and direct buyers numbered roughly 40–53 per quarter before the console launch and 30–38 afterward. The comparison is directional because the counts are small and direct billing outside the identified processor may be under-captured.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel from January 2023–August 17, 2026. Wizard101 and Pirate101 purchases were identified in receipt descriptions, subtitles, and subjects. Console channels were PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch; PC and direct channels were Steam and identified kingsisle.com billing; major-retailer gift cards were separate. The sequence cohort included 1,369 people whose first console purchase followed October 9, 2025, who were observable before that date and remained active. Free play, unconnected inboxes, and some direct processors are invisible, so new means a new observed paying relationship rather than a new player. Counts are panel estimates, not company totals.
