Zwift Returns Followed 19.6% of Off-Season Lapse Events vs. 1.9% With a Rival Payment

Across 265 fully observed Zwift off-season lapse events from winters 2023–2025, 19.6% had a Zwift return vs. 1.9% with a paid indoor-cycling rival.

Zwift returns were much more common than paid rival indoor-cycling receipts after off-season lapses

Share of 265 fully observed lapse events after a Zwift subscriber was active in January–March and had no receipt in July–September, pooled across 2023–2025 seasons

Source: YipitData U.S. e-receipt panel. Competing indoor apps were ROUVY, TrainerRoad, MyWhoosh, and Wahoo SYSTM. Rival coverage is thin, so the 1.9% result is a floor.

How often did winter Zwift subscribers lapse by late summer?

The late-summer lapse rate rose across the three fully observed winter cohorts: 39% for winter 2023 subscribers, 44% for winter 2024 subscribers, and 48% for winter 2025 subscribers. These within-season rates describe monthly subscription receipts and do not include annual plans or hardware bundles.

Does the missing paid activity mean that lapsers stopped cycling?

No. Free outdoor riding produces no receipt, so the absence of a paid cycling signal cannot show that someone stopped cycling. Strava or Garmin payments appeared during the gap for 13.2% of lapse events, but free use of those services and other outdoor activity remained invisible.

Assumptions & Methodologies

We analyzed YipitData’s U.S. e-receipt panel through August 2026. An off-season lapse event required a monthly Zwift subscriber in the panel to be active in January–March and have no receipt in July–September of the same year. We pooled 265 fully observed events from 2023–2025 and checked the following cycling season for Zwift, ROUVY, TrainerRoad, MyWhoosh, Wahoo SYSTM, Peloton, Strava, and Garmin receipts. Annual plans and hardware bundles were excluded. Small rival groups, incomplete billing-channel capture, and invisible free outdoor activity make destination rates estimates and prevent conclusions about total cycling activity or why someone lapsed.
